Hawaiian Airlines Flight AttendantHawaiian Airlines is legacy airline in the United States. It is the 8th largest commercial airline in the United States and is currently headquartered in Honolulu, HI. Founded in 1929 as Inter-Island Airways, the airline started operations by offering flights between select islands. Today, the carrier services to 11 different U.S. cities and 10 international destinations including Australia, China, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, and Tahiti.

 

Hawaiian Airlines Flight Attendant Job Requirements:

To become a flight attendant, there are minimum requirements that must be met. The general requirements are covered in the post Flight Attendant Requirements. This section will discuss the requirements specific to Hawaiian Airlines.

  • Must be a least 21 years old
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required
  • Possess a valid passport
    • US passport ; or
    • Foreign passport with applicable visas (if required)
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently
  • Able to pass a reach test (see the requirements page for a description)
  • Pass a physical/medical exam; including:
    • Successfully pass tuberculosis (TB) test
  • Have a vertical reach of 82”
  • Successfully complete and pass Federally regulated pre-employment drug screen
    • Willing to submit to random drug/alcohol tests throughout employment
    • Drug screen includes
      • Marijuana
      • Cocaine
      • Opiates
      • PCP (Phencyclidine)
      • Amphetamine
  • Comply with necessary pre-­employment checks mandated by TSA and/or Department of Transportation
    • Pass a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) required 5 year work history review
    • Pass a criminal background check
    • Complete the Department of Transportation (DOT) fingerprinting
  • Successfully complete a 7 week flight attendant training program
  • Available for alternative work schedules, including evenings weekends and holidays

 

To obtain a Flight Attendant job with Hawaiian Airlines, strong considerations will be given to flight attendant candidates:

  • With a minimum of two (2) years of experience in direct customer service
    • Within the hospitality industry; or
    • Within the airline industry
  • OR with four (4) years of customer contact and customer service issue resolution with the general public; including:
    • Retail
    • Education
    • Healthcare
    • Professional services
  • Who can speak one or more additional languages; some examples are:
    • Cantonese
    • Japanese
    • Korean
    • Mandarin
    • French
    • Tongan
    • Samoan
    • Tahitian
    • Etc.

 

Other requirements that may be helpful:

  • Work independently or as part of a team without supervision
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; friendly reception of all customers
  • Ability to push and pull beverage carts weighing up to 250 pounds
    • May require 40-45 pounds of push/pull force to maneuver
  • Must present a professional image
    • No visible tattoos
    • No facial, multiple, or upper ear piercings
    • No extreme hair colors or styles

 

Training:

  • Successfully complete 7 week initial flight attendant training program conducted in Honolulu, HI
  • Training and accommodations are at the expense of the applicant

Starting a flight attendant career can be great for people who love to travel. In this career you may work one or several flights per day. When the required flight attendant training program has been successfully completed, you will be assigned a base location. This is the city Hawaiian Airlines has hired you to work from; therefore, you have to report to work at the designated city and airport. Depending on your current location, this may require you to commute into the base city to work or require potential relocation to the designated city.
